Whereas conventional plein air painters seize their environment whereas outside, artist Maria Calandra takes a distinct method. By roaming the coastal headlands of Maine, exploring the waters of Florida, and venturing out to the rolling fields of Southern France, Calandra finds inspiration in nature for her dynamic oil landscapes.
The artist’s Brooklyn studio is laden with vitality after she returns from such invigorating excursions. “I paint whereas reflecting on that second throughout a hike whenever you begin to really feel Earth’s vibrations pulse by your toes and up your backbone, letting reminiscence, instinct, and people leftover vibrations take the reins,” she describes.
Calandra’s portray model mimics this depth as she interprets a stream of consciousness by fluid brushstrokes and oscillating natural kinds. Intuition guides the artist, who describes the act as “computerized portray.”
